Abstract: The characteristics of growth and development and stigma vitality of 4 new bred indica male sterile lines were observed. The results showed that 4 CMS lines all exhibited excellent agronomical characters, fertility stability and self-sterility duo to using dark envelopes. Among the 4 CMS lines, the highest stigma exsertion rate of 412A reached 89.2%, 558A and 698A were the same to control II-32A and both more than 83%. The stigma vitality of 412A maintained the longest time and dropped slowly. Moreover, the other breeding criterions of 4 new CMS lines were all better, and their main agronomical characters more excellent than II-32A, showing that they had a certain value.
