Abstract Lipid peroxidation is common in all biological systems, both appearing in developmentally and environmentally regulated processes of plants. Lipoxygenase is the key enzyme to catalyze lipid peroxidation, and it is also a multifunctional enzyme, catalyzing a variety of physiological reactions. The physiological characteristics and biological functions of plant lipoxygenase were reviewed in this paper.
